Parental Expectations

Book Club Bloggers: Don't forget to post responses via the comment section!

Augustus realizes that he wasn't in to basketball as much as his father wanted him to be in to basketball. It felt good for him to watch Isaac smash his old basketball trophies. How do parental expectations play a role in this book? In your own lives?

Discussion Question- realistic dialogue?

Welcome to our first Book Club discussion. You can sign in with your Norris email account to leave a comment. Be sure to read others' comments also in case you want to respond to what they have to say.

Discussion Question:

Book reviews have been quite positive about this book, but there are a few negative as well. One big comment in the negative reviews refers to the way Augustus and Hazel talk, that they don't sound like real teenagers. Do you agree with this? Is there a realistic way teenagers talk? Does going through something life changing such as having cancer cause some teens to grow up fast, and this is why they sound more mature?

Nominate a book!

With the school year starting up again, I would like to start a book club blog. If you have a book that you think the Norris students would enjoy, please stop by the library and let Mrs. Huenemann know. Or send her an email with the title and author.

A book will be selected after Labor Day to give you time to think of options and get the book ordered. Come back to the blog to post comments about the selected book!
